This is a training that has been approved by DPS and POST.

This training meets the 30 hour requirement for anyone wanting to become a public safety peer to peer counselor in MN and receive the protections of the related statute. The in-person portion of this training will be held on two consecutive days: May 29th and 30th. The online portion will be provided ahead of the in-person training and available to attend at your convenience (prior to the in-person course). There are a final 2 hours of online content following the in-person portion on June 3rd at 2pm.

Online content will be provided starting May 1st. If an attendee can’t make the final 2 hour scheduled online session, a recorded version will be available.

From this training, attendees will:

●Understand their role and responsibilities of a peer support worker and enhance their communication, interaction, decision-making, and support skills

●Be able to assess their own level of resilience and understand ways to enhance resiliency, be a model of wellness, and avoid burnout in this role

●Have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to be most effective in helping peers move towards recovery

●Have basic awareness to recognize signs of mental health challenges and how to provide peer support and access professional care

●Learn additional crisis management training, gain knowledge of how to identify and safely manage a crisis situation with a peer

*Please note: Anyone who has taken a POST approved Peer Support Training prior to Nov. 1, 2020 is grandfathered in as a Peer Support Team Member, regardless of the number of hours taken in the past. That being said, you are always welcome to attend this training as a refresher!

Marie is assisted in this training by multiple law enforcement officers. In addition to teaching all the foundational components of being a peer support team member, we will also teach you the basics of setting up a team, running it, and maintaining it. We will teach you how to conduct defusings at your agency and we will provide you with options for clinical consultation for your team.
